But the Lord swept them away, and in and with his power, truth, light, and life, hedged his lambs about, and did preserve them as on eagle's wings.

George Fox

The Journal of George Fox, Volume II, London: W. Phillips, 1827, reprinted from the first edition of 1694

Fox does not say the hostility was argued away or answered down to nothing. He says it was swept away, which is what wind does and not what argument does. Then he names three things in one breath — truth, light, and life — and does not separate them. The preserving is not described as a reward for anything. It is what happened while they were still standing there. Notice also that he does not claim to have done it.
