There is one light of the sun, though it is interrupted by walls, mountains, and other things infinite.Marcus Aurelius
Marcus keeps the light singular and the obstructions plural, which is the whole shape of the thought. Walls and mountains do not divide the sun into many suns. They only decide how much of it reaches a particular place. He is careful not to say the light is diminished. He says it is interrupted, which is a statement about what stands between, not about what shines. And he calls the things that interrupt it infinite, so the list is not one that anyone could finish clearing.
