But, for whom That darkness of the soul is chased by light, Splendid and clear shines manifest the Truth As if a Sun of Wisdom sprang to shed Its beams of dawn.

The Bhagavad-Gita

The Song Celestial, or Bhagavad-Gita, rendered from the Sanskrit by Edwin Arnold, 1888 printing

Arnold keeps the darkness inside the sentence, but notice which way it moves. The darkness is chased, not negotiated with, and it is light that does the chasing. Then he does not say the truth becomes visible. He says it shines manifest, as if it had been there the whole time and the only thing that changed is what was in the way. The sun of wisdom is compared to dawn, which is the one kind of light that arrives without being asked for.
