If God will shew thee more, he shall be thy light, thou need none but him.Julian of Norwich
Sixteen Revelations of Divine Love, Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1864, the Second Revelation
Julian is not asking for light here. She is answered in her own reason, which is to say the answer arrived as something she already knew how to hear. Nothing stands between her and the light, and she does not have to go and fetch it. She also notices that she had been seeking while still blind: the wanting came first. What she describes is not a reward for seeing clearly. It is light given to someone who cannot yet see.
